1.12.14: I started this run at Jones Point Park in Alexandria, VA. This park is at the southernmost point of the original District of Columbia (the bottom of the diamond), which was returned to Virginia in the mid-1800s. The Mount Vernon Trail runs through here, allowing users to take in Old Town Alexandria to the north and the tidal shoreline of the Potomac to the south. A lighthouse is located along the river on the south side of the park, near one of DC’s original boundary markers. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge carries the Capital Beltway over the Potomac, serving as a striking landmark that can be seen for miles in either direction.
