Running the Island Line

8.20.14: After spending some time in New Hampshire, we traveled to Burlington, Vermont to explore the city and eat maple flavored everything. After running on hills for the previous few days, I was excited to get in some relatively flat running alongside Lake Champlain. The Island Line Trail was one of the most unique trails I’ve run on, extending from just south of downtown to Grand Isle. The most interesting feature is a more than three mile stretch that crosses Lake Champlain, the Colchester Causeway. At the north end of the causeway, there is a cut separating the two sides. While I didn’t get to this point, there is a ferry that I saw in the distance that carries bikes and pedestrians from one side to the other. Running with water on both sides and mountains in the distance was certainly soothing!

At the end of the run, I took a quick dip in the lake at Leddy Beach. The water was cool and incredibly clear. Even the seagulls enjoyed the view!
