River Bends and Rocks

12.28.14: One of my favorite places to run in the area is along the C&O Canal Towpath, and on occasion, I like to find a “new to me” section of the trail to visit. One such place is across the river from Shepherdstown, West Virginia, close to the Antietam Battlefield. Venturing west from this point (approximately mile 73) the Potomac River includes a series of bends, ensuring that the trail is not straight for too long. This, combined with the rock formations on the other side of the trail, make for a visually-appealing section of towpath that allow a 13-mile run pass by fairly quickly.

Shepherdstown has a number of cute shops and restaurants, so after running, you can also get a tasty recovery meal and beverage!
