3.8.15: This winter has been generally cold and unpleasant for running, so I haven’t had the opportunity to get out and about to run some new routes. A few days after another unwelcome snowfall, I finally had the opportunity to go out and explore some of the neighborhoods in DC. This run took me from Arlington onto the National Mall, past the White House, and up to Meridian Hill Park. As is implied by the name, this park lies along Meridian Hill and features the largest cascading fountain in North America. Given the time of year, the fountain was not operational, allowing a closer look at its structure.
From there, I crossed over Rock Creek Park and ran over to the Palisades neighborhood, looping back to Arlington via Georgetown. The route captured the variety of housing types in the District, from historic Georgetown rowhouses to the spacious single-family homes of the city’s western reaches. The day was sunny, boosting the melting of snow that had fallen just days before. Despite this, signs of winter still persisted, as the Potomac River remained completely frozen over.
