6.25.15: On a quick weekend visit to the in-laws, we decided to drive into Cincinnati for a sort of long run. We had a limited timeframe to work with, so what started out as an ambition to run a 10-miler eventually ended up more like a 7 mile run. Because of this, I really had to rein in my compulsive picture-taking urges so that the run didn’t turn into a five miler. My apologies in advance for the relative lack of pictures here!
We started in Newport, Kentucky and ran along the south side of the river before crossing the Roebling Suspension Bridge over to the Ohio side of the Ohio River. From here, we ran up Vine Street through Downtown and into Over-the-Rhine, Cincinnati’s oldest neighborhood. When I lived in Cincinnati eight years ago, the area was only in the beginning stages of its revitalization. Running down the street now was eye-opening, as what was once a beautiful yet desolate street has now been transformed into a stretch of cafes, bars, and boutique shops.
From here, we ran back through Downtown and across the river to Newport, celebrating the end of the run with a half liter of lager from Hofbrauhaus! Not too bad for a time-strapped run.
