Big Sweat in the Big Easy

7.17.15 and 7.18.15: In the middle of July, we had the opportunity to visit New Orleans with some of my friends. The house we rented in the Garden District was a great base to explore the city, with one caveat – it was HOT! With lows right around 80 degrees, even a run at the crack of dawn resulted in profuse sweating. Our 10 mile run on Saturday was an exercise in slow torture, made better only by the old oaks and stately homes near Audubon Park.

A better way to see things with a little less sweat was by bicycle. A group of us went on a bike tour of the city, operated by Freewheelin’ Bike Tours based in the French Quarter. Starting there, we covered nearly ten miles of the city, exploring neighborhoods like Marginy and Treme, as well as City Park, home to the New Orleans Museum of Art.

These pictures are a sampling of the sights from our runs and the bike ride. I would have loved to take more pictures of the interesting architecture of the city, but that would have just prolonged our time outside, keeping us from precious air conditioning! Perhaps a visit during a cooler month is in order…
