Steel City Run

12.23.15: On the way to Ohio for the holidays we stopped in Pittsburgh for a quick five-mile run. Beginning in the South Side neighborhood, I ran along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, following the Monongahela River toward the center of the city. While I didn’t cross the river to go downtown, I did catch a couple of views of the city from the riverbank. On the return trip, I headed down East Carson Street, a historic district with several blocks of Victorian architecture from the late 1800s. My run ended at SouthSide Works, a former steel mill turned shopping and entertainment district along the river. While the era of steelmaking on this site is long gone, some physical artifacts remain along the river, creating a unique visual landscape.
