8.29.15 – 8.30.15: The whole summer nearly passed by and we hadn’t yet taken a camping trip. Given that it was nearly Labor Day, that meant it was time to hit the road and drive toward the beach! Before jumping in the ocean, I had a 16 mile run to tend to. Fortunately, Rehoboth Beach is a great base for a long run, with Cape Henlopen State Park‘s paths and the Junction and Breakwater Trail forming a large loop passing through woods, marshes, and even an old World War II fort! The day was quite sunny and warm, and by the end of the run I was more than ready for a dip in the Atlantic. Prior to doing so, we made a quick stop at the Dogfish Head Brewpub, a cozy spot with a variety of eclectic beers.
After a night of camping, we did a short recovery run around the pond at Trap Pond State Park. This nearly five-mile loop trail generally passes through woods, with several views of the pond. The pond contains the northernmost stand of baldcypress trees in the United States, adding some variety to the park’s vegetation.
